... When I received the frame I tried for ten minutes to get it to recognize the wifi router which was sitting on the same table. After about ten minutes it barfed some corrupted data on the screen and would not turn on again. The unit was totally dead.
I sent five emails over two weeks to eStarling via their support email (the only way to get in touch with them) and never heard back. I even opened a support ticket on their website and posted a comment in their support area and never heard anything. It was only when I opened up a claim with Amazon did they email me back and played dumb. I eventually got my money back.
Based on my experiences so far, I would recommend against anybody ordering this product or anything else from eStarling.

Some minor problems:
1) The remote doesn't work very well. First, I found putting the battery in with the right orientation wasn't obvious. The remote control did not work very well and would respond only intermittently. For instance, we would want to freeze a picture in slide show mode, or go back a frame or two. This did not work consistently and could be quite frustrating.
2) I would like to have seen a little more control over a few features. Two that come to mind immediately. First, the setting of slideshow could use more settings for pause between picture or provide a entry field to set your own. In particular, the slowest setting was not very slow. It is slow enough to review the pictures with others at your liesure, but there should be a setting where pictures only change every few minutes.
The second is that it would be nice to change whether pictures are shown in portrait or landscape mode. The frame will show pictures properly such that narrow pictures will fill as much of the screen as possible. It would be nice to have a setting where the pictures are rotated 90 degrees (and you would have to rotate the frame 90 degrees), so that portrait pictures automatically fill most or all of the frame, and landscape pictures will end up being smaller. ...

THE GOOD:
Blue-Tooth capable. HUGE screen size. Even for a large 14" screen size, the 1280 X 800 resolution is remarkable. Great quality frame - the best I've seen.
TV input - the speakers are ok - it seems odd, but I could see this used as a TV monitor.
Zoom function is nice.
With properly formatted pictures (1280X800 native) the internal memory alone will hold well over 750 pictures (use a free shareware program to resize and crop your photos to the native resolution)
THE BAD:
The remote IS REQUIRED to control the frame's features.
Remote is very finicky - button presses don't always register.
Menu navigation is not very intuitive.
Slide show frame indexing is limited to 5 sec, 10 sec, 30 sec, 60 sec and 1 hour. (nothing between 60 seconds and 1 hour?!)
THE UGLY:
Viewing angle- the viewing angle is a minuscule 100° (or less). Great LCD displays have a 170° to 178° viewing angle. Descent ones are above 150°.
The contrast ratio is only 400:1
The picture, although 1280X800 pixels, is not very sharp out of the box. Cranking it up to the highest sharpness setting helped, but it's still a little soft.
The display has one of the new style highly reflective glass surfaces like that found on new lap tops. In a room with a lot a windows and florescent lights, it needs to be positioned just right or you won't be able to see the displayed image.
If you can position this where you'll be seated looking straight at it (like my scenario - at work on a desk) and can get it for half the MSRP, DO IT NOW!! If not, I'd pass and get something with a better viewing angle - this one is terrible.

... I purchased one of these before Christmas to test out. It seemed like a great deal: a digital photo viewer that doubles as a mp3 player and movie player. The feature list is a dream team of capabilities, but being a tech guy and having experienced many disappointments before, I remained skeptical, preparing for the worst. I knew that if I didn't like it, I could always return it. If it ended up working as advertised (even with a few glitches), I could give it to my dad so he can view photos without the PC.
When this product arrived, this turned out a lot more inferior than I previously imagined. The resolution is astonishingly low and the screen is very low quality. Everything about this product just screams low quality, from the construction to its interface to the actual operations of the unit. It takes about 5 seconds for the unit to turn on after pushing the power button either on the unit itself or on the remote.
Reading from SD card also takes a long time, taking about 5 seconds to read a 5 megapixel picture (1.5 MB). The low quality display makes everything dark and blurry.
The mp3 feature works as advertised, but the file name is cut off after 8 letters (think DOS) and there is no display of any kind as to the length, artist, etc, that is kept in the mp3 file's ID3 tags. I couldn't test the video playback features except for mpeg-1. I had some mp4's, but the unit says "unsupported format" even though they played on my PC.
The remote control is a joke. You need to be pointing DIRECTLY at the IR sensor. A few degrees off and it refuses to recognize. I thought the remote was broken when I tried this for the first time.
The video out is 1 nice feature, but sadly, you'll never use it. It outputs at the resolution of the unit. My HDTV upscaled the input and made it actually look nicer than on the unit!
To sum it up, this thing is a total piece of junk. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Sure, it's ambitious in its plans, but it fails to deliver on every level. DO NOT BUY this thing. You've been warned. ...

However - beware the following, confirmed by Tricod's tech support:
There is a 142 picture limit in the file system. That is to say - the file system can only "see" 142 pictures at a time. The workaround for this is to divide the pictures up into folders of less that 142 on the memory card. However, you will still only be able to do a slide show of each folder, as the frame - no matter what - will not see more than 142 pictures at one time. If you can live with this limitation, go for it.
UPDATE: Tricod's tech support has been amazing and says that the new versions of the picture frame now support over 1000 pictures in a folder. They had me send my frames back and are sending me new frames. Kudos to a great support team for seeing a flaw and making it right for a customer! ...

This review is about Ceiva, the company.
We purchased these frames as charter subscribers from Ceiva when they were a fledgling company. As a promotion, we paid 3 times the annual rate for lifetime subscriptions. This was a good deal for us and good word of mouth advertising for Ceiva. The promotion was only offered for a few months, limiting Ceiva's financial liability.
In the intervening years, Ceiva posted a policy on their site defining "lifetime" as the life of the device or seven years. This limitation was not disclosed in the original offer and the only email I have received from them has been monthly newsletters: a marketing brochure.
When I noticed our lifetime subscriptions soon expire, I contacted their customer support. After working my way up to the manager of customer service, he denied my request to honor the original deal. He did offer me a discount on buying new, current product. In other words, he tried to turn a significant customer service incident into a sales opportunity.
The product provides a unique solution but considering the subscription cost, it is very expensive. Since it would have cost Ceiva so little to honor the few lifetime subscribers they have, I can only infer that their business model is not working and they are desperate for new revenue. Since the product relies on the services Ceiva provides later, my recommendation is to steer away from this company.
Instead, buy another product; spend a dollar a month and mail grandma an SD card. She can learn to change it. ...

... I've been using the Cagic 8 digital frame for more than a month now. Having used others (Philips, Kodak, Pandigital among them) I was a bit jaded, and perhaps my expectations were low for all digital frames.
Cagic cured that. Let's start with the basics: it works - perfectly. No bells and whistles, no complicated menus. You turn it on, it shows your pictures, period. Go to the next one? Just touch the matting on the right. Previous? Touch on the left. Loading pictures? Just stick your memory card in and it pulls all the pictures in, scales them for the frame and tells you to take the card out. That's it. Could not be easier.
In terms of styling, there's nothing that holds a candle to it... how could there be? They use solid brushed aluminum and a 2 inch thick natural wood frame. The frame is so solid it is almost confusing at first... it looks and feels like a nice piece of furniture, not a digital frame. No plastic, no ugly doors or things sticking out... just a metal dome on the back with a support and a beautiful wood frame on the front. Quite literally everything else out on the market is some mix of plastic and acrylic... Cagic went the other way.
The bad: not much. It doesn't do audio and doesn't play video. If you want to use your digital frame to watch TV or listen to music, this won't work. If you're like 99% of the other people who just want it to display pictures, this is the one. Also, no WiFi. I'm mixed on that. What I've seen of WiFi on frames is so confusing and laden with layers, that I'd love for it to be easy. It appears Cagic just opted out of WiFi for now (though an e-mail to customer service got a quick response stating "don't be surprised to see an upgrade in the near future" for WiFi when I suggested it).
In short, if you want something that looks nice and just works, with no thought involved, this is it. I ordered a 2nd one for my office after using this one for a while.
