I did have to call the customer service to figure out how to get my pictures into a file that my keychain could download from. I called about 7pm CST and there was only a short wait to talk to someone. They were very helpful. Once I figured out how to preview pictures and download them, it was easy. The picture quality is very good in my opinion. I love everything about this Curtis digital keychain. In fact, I loved it so much, I ended up ordering a total of 6 of them for my family. ... I love the software that came with this frame--it's easy to copy lots of pictures, and it automatically changes the resolution for sharp pictures with minimum memory storage. But, if you copy a whole folder, it reorganizes the order of the pictures unless the numbers all have the same number of digits (eg. 001, 0002 to 0100 etc.) So, if your pictures are using the default numbers assigned by Microsoft software when renaming them (eg. 1, 2 ....10...100 etc.) then all the pictures beginning with one will be together (eg. 1, 10, 11...100, 101,)then you will see the series two photos (2, 20, 21....200) etc. The work-around is to load those photos individually or in sequential groups instead of copying a full folder. It takes a lot longer, though. If you don't care what order the pictures are in, then go for it! ... First of all the, the user's guide AND the remote is not intuitive. I had to refer to the user's guide a couple of times because I couldn't remember what buttons to push on the remote to delete a file. Also, when reading through the steps to perform an operation, the steps weren't very clear and I had to re-read and just play with it. So that's not so bad if you don't mind deciphering text.
The main problem I have with it is that it will not display vertical pictures correctly. You can use the frame's remote to rotate the picture, but it won't keep it that way...the next time it displays it's right back where it started. And you say, "OK, I'll use my PC to 'fix' it." I did that and reloaded the picture onto the frame, but it displays it zoomed in, so it cuts off people's heads. The weird thing is that I think it has the capability to display it properly because on some transitions, just before it flips to another picture, it displays the vertical photo correctly.
About the transitions, it sometimes displays your pictures in black and white. Oh, and one more thing...no matter what order you have your pictures loaded on the frame, it displays them randomly. To me, it's not worth 19.95 if you're sitting there getting mad at it. ...

... I bought this digital frame because it claims to have many features in addition to playing back photos, such as MP3 audio and video playback.
Good: All the list features are working.
Bad: The listed features don't perform well.
- The photos don't have true color and over saturated with wrong contrast.
- Only Mpeg2 video is supported, not DVD .vob files, not AC3 audio but mpeg2 audio (mpeg1 layer2 to be exact). One has to find proper tools/software to convert to this specific format.
- The user manual is so brief, it's next to useless. The UI/menu is very non-intuitive.
- The USB connector for memory stick works fine with my 1GB, 2GB ones, but not USB hard-drive (20GB, 320GB etc.). So, I can't watch a full length movie.
- The USB connector to the PC is of type A (the same as the one for memory stick). This is unusual, as others normally use mini-B (the one mostly on a digital camera). I haven't found/bought a type-A to type-A cable to connect the unit to PC yet.
I give a 3-star rating to it, because it has all the features they listed working. But I wouldn't recommend it. I'm just too lazy to return it.

... Most 7" photo frames use cheap panels produced at obsolete fabs, with ridiculously low resolutions like 480x234 and low contrast ratios that make the pictures look washed out (e.g. Kensington). Not this one. The size (10") and the resolution (1024x600) are exactly those of panels used in expensive ultralight notebook computers in recent years. I had a strong suspicion that, amid the global recession, Viewsonic was able to pick up this high-end panel for a song and put it into a photo frame instead. The sale price of $99 over the black Friday weekend was also fantastic, so I ordered one.
The actual product does not disappoint. The screen is bright, fine and beautiful. Built-in memory is not big but adequate. Connectivity options are plenty. I do not regret the purchase.
On the other hand, it is also far from being perfect. There are just enough nagging issues with this photo frame to withhold an unconditional recommendation. First and foremost, the 16x9.375 aspect ratio is truly suboptimal for a photo frame. Without processing, most photos would leave shiny white bands on the two edges. My solution is to use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to crop and resize the photos to exactly 1024x600, but not all pictures look good after cropping.
The menu system is kludgy. Even with the remote control, it is still time-consuming to perform some basic tasks.
The viewing angle from below is pretty limited, but this is common among notebook-oriented LCD.
The frame starts to make a buzzing sound after a while. It goes away after I turn the power off and on again.
I have yet to figure out an elegant way to hide the power cable, but all digital photo frames have the same problem, so it would be unfair to count this against Viewsonic. ...

... I was expecting the "clock and calendar" to be a semi-transparent overlay on my slide-show photos. Instead, the clock/calendar seems to overlay only on that single image as shown in the product description photo.
The base/stand seems to be sturdy enough. The AC power adapter can be plugged into either the base or the frame, but there is no "wall hook slot" on the back of the frame, so you can't hang the frame on a wall.
Because this is an 8-inch, 800x600 pixels LCD (I read somewhere it is also 16.7 million [8/24 bit] colors), and after turning down the brightness and contrast from the factory settings, my photos look very good.
I strongly recommend resizing a COPY of your photos down to 800 x 600 pixels (a 4:3 aspect ratio) before you load them into the frame. If the frame has to resize your larger photos down to 800 x 600, the resizing can take significant time and maybe not be displayed by the time the slide show advances to the next photo. You can use the free Irfanview program to resize a copy of your photos.
To easily remove finger prints from the screen, use a microfiber lens or eyeglass cleaning cloth (one without any chemicals like anti-fog) to gently wipe the prints off. The small cloth included with my frame seems to be a microfiber cloth and works well.
I tried running the frame on battery power only. It lasted about 75 minutes.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with this picture frame. Four stars because the clock/calendar only shows its own background photo. ...
